In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, 13 Brooklyn-based Asian American small businesses were awarded $2,000 microgrants to modernize their digital marketing efforts. This initiative, launched by Borough President Antonio Reynoso in collaboration with Asian Americans for Equality, aims to support businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Business owners had to participate in workshops to learn effective online marketing strategies prior to receiving the funds. Reynoso emphasized the importance of small businesses in Brooklyn's economy, highlighting their role in economic growth and social mobility for immigrants.
"A lot of [small businesses] are still relying on foot traffic, and I think by using digital marketing, they can attract new business to Brooklyn and their business."
"We want them to spend the money wisely, so they had to go through our classes. Now they're getting to implement what they want to do."
