Mayor Orders Removal of Bike Lane on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn
Briefly

Mayor Eric Adams announced the removal of a bike lane on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg based on safety concerns from residents, particularly following several accidents involving children. The city aims to revert the bike lane to its original design while preserving pedestrian safety measures. This decision, occurring after a public town hall meeting, was criticized by local officials as politically motivated, raising fears that removing the lane may actually increase the risk of accidents in the area.
After several incidents- including some involving children- on a section of the Bedford Avenue bike lane in Williamsburg, we decided to adjust the current design to better reflect community feedback.
The mayor's decision to remove the bike lane was purely political. This reckless and arbitrary decision will lead to more tragic crashes, and it will be his fault.
