Jacob German was reportedly the first man arrested for driving an automobile too fast in 1899, running cab No. 1,565 for the Electric Vehicle Company in New York City.
In 1911, David L. Bruce-Brown and Joe Matson introduced the six-day bicycle race method to automobile track racing at the Indianapolis Speedway, alternating drivers frequently for endurance.
