The 27th MATA Festival, curated by Pauline Kim Harris, returns to NYC from June 11-14, highlighting emerging composers alongside legendary figures in experimental music. The festival's theme, "Intergalactic Infinity: Music Between Spaces," explores ancestry, identity, science fiction, and technoculture through contemporary compositions. With over 300 submissions, 18 promising composers will be showcased, including works by Sun Ra Arkestra and others. Founded in 1996, MATA has grown into a critical platform for early-career talent, exploring the rich intersection of artistic identities and legacies.
"This year's festival brings focus to a past and future of musical exploration by living legends, manifesting a legacy which continues to influence, inspire and impact generations of composers - grounded by the complexities and intersections of identity, race, history and cultural ethos," said Harris.
The Music at the Anthology (MATA) Festival returns to New York City for its 27th season from June 11-14, presenting four nights of experimental and boundary-pushing performances under the theme Intergalactic Infinity: Music Between Spaces.
