The Hendrick I. Lott House, a 1720 Dutch Colonial home in Brooklyn, will transform into Marine Park’s inaugural museum after renovations set for early 2026. These extensive updates aim to modernize while preserving historical elements, focusing on the Lott family's legacy and the neighborhood's diverse history. Friends of the Lott House, a key volunteer group, has significantly contributed to restoration efforts, which received $4 million in funding from the NYC Council. The project embodies a dedication to historic preservation and community engagement over the next 18 months.
We're very much looking forward to the modernization,” Loorya told Brooklyn Paper, noting that all renovations will prioritize preserving the historic fabric and salvageable materials on the property. “If something is dilapidated to the point that it's not salvageable, we will ensure that we fully document it so we can do accurate reproductions in the future.
The transformation into a fully operational museum will mark a new chapter for the neighborhood and the storied history of Southern Brooklyn that shaped the city we know today.
