Thursday's shooting happened at a time when Brooklyn has been battling a late summer surge in gun violence. How does this keep happening in this community? asked Roger Bennett. A daytime double shooting occurred about 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 4 at the corner of Euclid and Sutter Avenues in Cypress Hills. Officers from the 75th Precinct responded after a ShotSpotter activation. Two 20-year-old male victims were found: one shot in the chest and another with a gunshot wound to the leg and a graze wound. EMS transported both to Brookdale University Hospital where the chest-wounded victim died; his identity remains unreleased pending family notification. The other 20-year-old was listed in stable condition. Local residents expressed outrage and fear. The 75th Precinct reported a 17.5% decrease in shootings year-to-date through Aug. 31.
