In a recent Emerson College Polling survey, Zohran Mamdani has markedly increased his support in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary, now at 32%, closely trailing Andrew Cuomo at 35%. With ranked-choice voting simulations, Mamdani leads with 52% to Cuomo's 48% in final rounds. This surge in support over five months highlights Mamdani's rising popularity, especially among early voters. Former President Bill Clinton endorsed Cuomo, emphasizing his competency in public housing, adding another dynamic to the tight race as the election approaches.
"Over five months, Mamdani's support has surged from 1% to 32%, while Cuomo finishes near where he began," said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.
"In the ranked-choice simulation, Mamdani gains 18 points compared to Cuomo's 12, putting him ahead in the final round for the first time in an Emerson poll."
"New Yorkers should choose competence for a change," Clinton said in a statement, endorsing Cuomo's experience in public housing.
