Long-awaited Green-Wood Cemetery visitor center to open in April * Brooklyn Paper
"Brooklynites will get their first chance to check out the long-awaited visitor center at Green-Wood Cemetery when the doors officially open to the public in April. Dubbed the Green-House at Green-Wood, the new facility includes the restored Weir Greenhouse as well as the new terra-cotta clad building that wraps around the landmarked structure."
"The new building includes visitor orientation areas as well as room for education programs, exhibitions, staff offices, and archival storage. It was largely complete when Brownstoner wandered by in August and October of 2025, while work continued on the interior of the original greenhouse."
"Programs being offered during the opening celebration include a workshop with artist Jean Shin and a chance to plant some native wildflower seedlings. For those interested in a behind-the-scenes look at the archives, there is a guided tour and a glimpse of some of the documents and objects in the collection."
Green-Wood Cemetery will open its long-awaited visitor center, the Green-House at Green-Wood, in April 2025. The facility features a restored Weir Greenhouse and a new terra-cotta clad building surrounding the landmarked structure. The grand opening on April 18 includes free activities and public exploration opportunities. The building provides visitor orientation areas, education programs, exhibitions, staff offices, and archival storage. Public spaces remain free year-round. The greenhouse restoration was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2015, with final design approval in 2021. The project received $4.5 million in capital funding in 2022 and an additional $500,000 in state funds in 2023. Opening programs include workshops with artist Jean Shin, native wildflower planting, and guided archive tours.
