Legendary Coney Island Cyclone Reopens
Briefly

The Cyclone, a historic wooden coaster that has thrilled visitors since 1927, began welcoming riders again at 11:00am, according to a press release. It closed on Aug. 22 after the roller coaster stopped mid-ride, but following significant investments in maintenance, it reopened on Sept. 7.
The Zamperla family, owners of Central Amusement International Inc., said they have invested millions into restoring the 97-year-old iconic coaster. 'We are incredibly honored to preserve the legacy of the Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster and offer memorable experiences on this historic coaster, year after year,' said Alessandro Zamperla. This reflects a commitment to not only maintaining attractions but ensuring they resonate with visitors as heritage sites.
Renowned for its thrills and character, the Cyclone was designated a New York City Landmark in 1988 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This recognition underlines the significance of the coaster within both local and national contexts, proving it to be much more than just a ride.
