Violent crime in Brooklyn saw a year-over-year decrease of more than 7% in June, with significant drops in five of seven major felony categories. Rape cases decreased by 15%, though non-rape sex crimes rose by 19%. Homicides increased by 57%, marking a troubling rise. Grand larceny auto cases also surged by 19%. Overall, crime declined citywide across the five boroughs. Amidst the decline, gun violence saw a notable reduction, dropping 30% citywide. NYPD implemented strategies such as deploying officers to areas of high violence and focused on removing illegal firearms.
From June 2-28, crime across Kings County was down in five of seven major felony categories - rape, robbery, burglary, felony assault, and grand larceny - compared to the same period last year.
Homicide was up significantly, rising 57% from seven murders in June 2024 to 11 in June 2025, and grand larceny auto ticked up by 19%, with a whopping 320 vehicles reported stolen in just 28 days.
While gun violence usually rises in the summer months, it declined citywide in June - shootings were down 30% citywide and 26% in Brooklyn.
