""The thing we tell people when you fundraise is find the thing that you like to do and turn it into a fundraiser," she told Brooklyn Paper. "It's like putting the fun in fundraising, and music is my passion.""
""The jam band world has been historically male-dominated," she said. "So, the American Cancer Society started a campaign called Men Wear Pink about 10 years ago. The idea behind that is each community has these campaigns where guys are the proponents for breast cancer awareness and encourage their wives and sisters to get screened.""
A legendary jam band will play two nights at Brooklyn Bowl on Oct. 9-10 to support Rock the Pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Both shows are 21+, with doors at 6 p.m. and music at 8 p.m. The band marks 35 years together and will perform songs from albums including Fatboy, What Happened to the La Las, Headseed and Circle of Giants. Rock the Pink is an American Cancer Society initiative led by Melanie Francis, associate director of development, aimed at engaging the music community in breast cancer awareness. The campaign builds on the Men Wear Pink concept to encourage community-led fundraising through music.
