State Senator Zellnor Myrie unveiled the second part of his mayoral campaign focused on public safety. His plan, 'Rebuild NYC: Public Safety and Public Square,' seeks to hire 2,000 detectives and increase the NYPD uniformed force to 36,600 officers. He advocates for deploying police-clinician teams in key areas and expanding crime prevention initiatives. Myrie emphasizes re-establishing trust in law enforcement through competent governance and accountability. Safety, he claims, is paramount for elected officials, reflecting the concerns of over eight million NYC residents regarding current public safety levels.
New York City is not nearly as safe today as it should be - full stop. Nor does it feel safe enough to the over eight million people who call it home.
With public safety, as in so many areas, we need to get back to the basics of focused, competent government - innovating in areas that need it and demanding accountability across the board.
