New York City has launched an online portal for around 1,600 workers who believe they are owed wages from city-funded projects. Comptroller Brad Lander announced the availability of $4 million in settlements, urging these workers to come forward and claim their earnings. The prevailing wage laws mandate that employers must pay designated wages and benefits for city-funded work, including construction and temporary labor. Among the unpaid wages, amounts vary widely, highlighting significant owed funds ranging from hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars.
Over a thousand workers who built this city have yet to collect their hard-earned wages, and we hope they'll come forward to claim what they're owed.
Prevailing wage laws require employers to pay workers a wage and benefit rate set annually by the comptroller when those employees work on city-funded projects.
Approximately 1,600 workers are owed a total of $4.27 million that has not yet been collected, with unpaid wages ranging from a few hundred dollars to more than $86,000.
There are now $4 million in city coffers from prevailing wage settlements with companies that worked on city-funded projects across the five boroughs.
