Honoring Middle Grade, Young Adult Storytelling at The 18th Annual Black Writers Conference
Briefly

The National Black Writers Conference is set to return March 27-29, 2025, focusing on Black Young Adult (YA) and Middle Grade (MG) literature's transformative role in fostering literacy and affirming identity. Celebrated literary figures Tony Medina and Rita Williams-Garcia will be recognized, and the conference will introduce Donna Hill as the new executive director. Hill highlights the need for representation in literature and emphasizes the importance of nurturing the next generation of readers through authentic Black narratives.
"They tap into the issues and voices of our younger generation. Their stories let our young people know that they are seen, that they are important, and what they think and feel is valued."
"How many of us grew up without seeing images of ourselves in books? And now with the ongoing assault on books and the systematic attempts to erase or re-write history, it is crucial we support Black narratives."
