An early racially integrated school in Weeksville will be turned into a homeless shelter, with 91 units planned. Highland Park Community Development Corporation will manage the shelter, with significant government funding involved for operations and rent.
The city will pay Highland Park CDC over $6.5 million to run the shelter for five years, in addition to a startup budget. The annual rent to the building landlord is $2.7 million.
