A fire erupted in a seven-story Bay Ridge apartment building on Wednesday morning, injuring at least two individuals. The FDNY responded quickly to the blaze, which started on the third floor and engulfed an entire apartment, leading to smoke filling upper floors. Many tenants evacuated safely while others remained in their apartments, calling out for help. With around 60 firefighters on the scene, the fire was brought under control by noon, and an investigation into its cause will be conducted by the FDNY fire marshal.
When firefighters arrived in the building at 11:15 a.m., one third-floor apartment was engulfed in flames and the upper floors were filled with smoke.
Some sheltered in their apartments for the duration of the fire, while many screamed from their open windows, asking firefighters for instructions.
Dozens of tenants managed to evacuate the building, at least one toting a large dog, as the emergency unfolded.
The FDNY fire marshal will investigate the cause and origin of the blaze that injured at least two civilians.
