FDNY members reported that multiple brush fires broke out in Prospect Park and Marine Park, with rapid response efforts ensuring no injuries occurred and the situation was under control.
Mayor Eric Adams stressed that the ongoing drought necessitates strict measures, stating, "Effective immediately, we are prohibiting grilling in our parks, and we need all New Yorkers to take commonsense steps to prevent brush fires."
Adams highlighted the collective responsibility in managing the ongoing drought effects, saying, "Getting through this drought will take all of us working together, and every drop counts, so let's keep doing our part to save as much water as we can."
The mayor announced key fire prevention steps, including the ban on fireworks and caution during hot construction activities, to mitigate fire risks during the dry conditions.
