The incident, the second subway train to derail in the new year, happened near the West 8th Street-New York Aquarium around 12:20 pm, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.
The Gothamist reported that the train, en route to Manhattan, crashed through a wooden barrier as it derailed with one of its cars coming to a rest just a few feet from the edge of the elevated track structure.
