No fewer than 27 aftershocks occurred after a 4.8 tremor struck near Whitehouse Station, NJ, causing shaking in New York City homes and offices for extended periods.
The USGS estimated a 45% chance of aftershocks above 4.0 magnitude following Friday's tremor. The aftershocks are part of activity along the Ramapo Fault.
