On June 21, a father and his 10-year-old son were struck by a car driven by a 37-year-old man in Bed-Stuy while cycling. Both were taken to Maimonides Medical Center with stable injuries. Reports claim the driver ran a red light; however, the NYPD did not confirm this. The incident raised safety concerns, as previous crashes have occurred at the same intersection. The safe-streets group Transportation Alternatives emphasized their dedication to preventing such accidents.
Since 2020, three crashes at the intersection of Nostrand and Lexington avenues have left two pedestrians and one driver injured, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the area.
