Deadline looms to get REAL ID driver's license in NYS
Briefly

By May 7, 2025, all New Yorkers must possess either a REAL ID or Enhanced ID to board domestic flights and enter specific federal facilities without a passport.
DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder warns that New Yorkers should act promptly to obtain their IDs to avoid last-minute issues at airport security.
Identification cards will have a U.S. flag for Enhanced IDs or a star for REAL IDs, indicating their compliance with federal REAL ID Act standards.
The Enhanced ID not only meets the federal requirements but also allows for crossing borders into Canada, Mexico, and some Caribbean countries by land or sea.
