Mayor Eric Adams reported significant decreases in crime rates, with shootings and homicides dropping by 53.9% and 41.4%, respectively. However, despite this success, many New Yorkers feel unsafe. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch highlighted a troubling rise in gun-related crimes among minors, with arrests increasing by 136% since 2018. While overall crime is down, the involvement of young people in violent crime poses ongoing challenges for law enforcement and the city's safety. The mayor emphasized the need to realign public perception with actual crime statistics.
