The NYC Department of City Planning will hold a public meeting on Aug. 7 regarding a controversial rezoning that could potentially throw Brooklyn Botanic Garden's greenhouses into partial shadow, affecting rare orchids, tropical and desert plants, and bonsai.
The developer Continuum, seeking a rezoning to R8A from the current R6A, plans to build up to 14 stories at 962-972 Franklin Avenue, next to BBG. Community Board 9 has already disapproved the rezoning, with local leaders emphasizing no approval if it harms the Garden.
