On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Brooklynites convened in Coney Island for an interfaith ceremony. Hosted by Raja Azad Gul, the event emphasized the significance of interfaith collaboration in overcoming contemporary challenges and fostering respect among communities. Lisa Katz, from the Combat Antisemitism Movement, stressed the need for vigilance against hate, warning of rising antisemitism in the U.S. Following the escalation of violence in the Middle East, hate crimes soared, significantly impacting both Jewish and Muslim communities. Katz noted that the fight against antisemitism remains crucial, asserting that it persists beyond the Holocaust's tragic legacy.
This day is not just about remembering the past, but as we've heard today it's a call to action for all of us to ensure that such atrocities never happen again.
As we reflect on the Holocaust we must also reflect on our responsibility. To make it really simple, antisemitism is Jew hatred and it did not end with the Holocaust.
