Brooklynborn former NYPD detective turns author - The Chief
Briefly

Growing up in Brooklyn, Anthony Celano had a unique upbringing, observing social dynamics while accompanying his father to clubs. His diverse neighborhood experiences contributed to his understanding of local cultures. After struggling academically at St. John's University, he found a new path at St. Francis College. A chance encounter with NYPD officers on a bus sparked his interest in law enforcement, leading to his eventual career with the NYPD, where he served from 1974 to 1995, later becoming an author.
"I really wasn't around other kids very much," said the 73-year-old Celano, who served with the NYPD from 1974 to 1995, retired as a sergeant assigned to the Detective Bureau, and has since published seven books.
Celano noted that they did not pay the fare and was impressed by their holstered firearms. Most importantly, he took notice of the comfortable banter they had with each other.
