Technology for Families in Need (TechFIN), a nonprofit founded by Nigel Frankson, aims to close the digital divide in New York City by refurbishing and distributing computers to low-income families. Recently named a 2025 Spark Prize winner for its dedication to racial justice and community support, TechFIN has supplied over 4,000 computers since its inception. The prize funding will enable the organization to hire a full-time executive director, enhancing its ability to serve families. Frankson's inspiration stemmed from his own experiences with inadequate access to technology during his childhood.
Since its inception, TechFIN has provided more than 4,000 computers to families in need. The Spark Prize award money will help hire a full-time executive director.
I was also thinking about the fact that we now had corporate jobs where we were given a new computer every two to three years, and it seemed incredibly wasteful.
