Brooklyn crane collapse: Two people injured after rig smashes onto dollar van and building | amNewYork
Briefly

A construction crane collapsed in Flatbush, Brooklyn, on February 18, injuring two men inside a dollar van. The crane toppled off a wooden skid while lifting materials, striking the parked van and the Express Deli Grocery. Fire officials reported that despite the crane operator's attempts to correct its tilt due to the weight, the equipment could not be stabilized. Fortunately, both men suffered only minor injuries and were treated at Kings County Hospital. The incident is under investigation by the Buildings Department, while nearby witnesses reported a loud bang before seeing the aftermath of the collapse.
Fire officials said the crane operator, working for Newcastle Building Products of New Jersey, tried to compensate for the weight of the materials, but was unable to correct.
Margaret Bane, working at nearby A.P. Clothing Outlet, said she heard the loud bang and saw the crane on the van, expressing her relief at not being outside.
