Brooklyn residents are braving brutal cold with temperatures dropping to single digits and icy conditions affecting their morning commutes. Areas such as Bed-Stuy and Bushwick, especially around the Wykoff Avenue and the L train entrances, are identified as hot spots for dangerous ice. Fortunately, the Department of Sanitation of New York (DSNY) has spread over 20 million pounds of salt to mitigate black ice on roadways, providing some relief for drivers, but pedestrians are advised to take precautions against slips by walking carefully on icy sidewalks.
With temperatures as low as the single digits throughout parts of Brooklyn, bitter blasts of wind and icy sidewalks are expected for pedestrians this morning.
However, there is some good news from drivers as black ice seems rare on roads throughout the boroughs, as DSNY deployed over 20 million pounds of salt starting Sunday morning.
