"BROOKLYN, NY - The popular restaurant Nura is closing permanently, owners announced this week, marking the end of a six-year journey that brought acclaim to the business on Norman Avenue. "This time comes for (almost) every restaurant, and it comes for us now," the team wrote in a social media post. "With full hearts, we announce that Nura's final day of service will be Sunday, February 15th.""
"Born during the pandemic-its lease signed just two weeks before NYC's first lockdown in March 2020-Nura opened in a former auto body shop. "Nura would not have existed without the care, talent, and belief of so many: our landlord Jack, whose grace during the pandemic gave us the chance to open at all," the owners said, thanking their team members."
Nura will close permanently, with final service scheduled for Sunday, February 15. Nura opened in 2021 as a follow-up venture from restaurateurs Michelle Lobo and Scott Hawley, the team behind Bushwick's Otis. Chef Jackie Carnesi helmed the kitchen, offering tandoori skewers and breads reflecting Lobo-Hawley's Indian heritage. The lease was signed two weeks before New York City's first lockdown in March 2020, and the restaurant occupied a former auto body shop on Norman Avenue. The menu featured curated small, medium, and large plates, including a charred half-chicken with green chili sauce and a lamb shank with daal curry. Owners thanked landlord Jack, staff, and patrons; no specific reason for closure was provided.
