651 ARTS will host its fifth annual Juneteenth Celebration, "We Outside! A Brooklyn Juneteenth, Vol. III," in collaboration with The Soapbox Presents. This outdoor event, set for June 21 at The Plaza at 300 Ashland, aims to honor the national holiday by celebrating culture and community. With a thematic focus on coalition-building, the event draws inspiration from artist Faith Ringgold, emphasizing themes of resiliency, Black joy, and self-determination through performances and community engagement activities, including the popular Stoop Sessions.
This year's "We Outside..." event centers the theme of building coalitions to build community – drawing inspiration from legendary artist Faith Ringgold, whose art embodies expressions of Blackness.
With Ringgold's work as a connector, the day will showcase the impetus behind Freedom Day and reinforce themes of resiliency, Black joy, and self-determination that honor Black culture.
