Woburn District Court was evacuated after a man, armed with a gas mask and pepper spray, entered the courthouse and deployed the pepper spray. The incident occurred during an ongoing case linked to a year-ago event from Stoneham. The suspect was subdued and arrested, while one officer also needed medical attention. The courthouse temporarily closed but planned to reopen for limited business later in the afternoon. Authorities are currently assessing potential criminal charges against the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
The male suspect arrived at the courthouse for a case that originated approximately one year ago out of Stoneham, Woburn Chief of Police Robert F. Rufo told Boston.com in an email.
He was subsequently subdued, arrested and transported to the hospital, Rufo said, also noting a Stoneham officer was transported from the scene for possible injuries.
