""It's a very tragic case, no matter how you look at it. The human mind has many corridors, some of them well lit, some of them dark. We just don't know.""
""Dr. Joyce Perrotta, a state forensic psychologist, said in court that she observed DeMayo to have long-term depressive symptoms, including restricted affect, anhedonia, and suicidal ideation.""
Anthony DeMayo, an 18-year-old from Lynn, has been committed to Bridgewater State Hospital after being found mentally incompetent to stand trial for the murder of Janet Swallow, 68. DeMayo allegedly stabbed Swallow in her home and confessed to planning the act. A forensic psychologist noted his long-term depressive symptoms. A judge ruled him incompetent based on evaluations, and he will be reevaluated in six months. Prosecutors stated that DeMayo and Swallow were unknown to each other, making the murder a random act.
