Seekonk man charged with attempted rape, allegedly assaulted Uber driver
Briefly

A Seekonk man, James Oakes, has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including assault with intent to rape, after an incident with an Uber driver. The police reported that Oakes, during the ride, forced the driver to a secluded location where he assaulted her physically and sexually. The victim managed to escape and attract attention from local residents after Oakes took her phone and fled. He was arrested and held pending a dangerousness hearing, emphasizing the severity of the crime and the ongoing legal response.
Oakes allegedly assaulted the victim while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, wrapping his hands around her neck, according to WCVB.
The victim then allegedly drove down the road as Oakes assaulted her before the vehicle came to a stop on a front lawn.
He did choke her at one point, and there is evidence of it being sexually motivated, so one of the charges is assault with intent to rape.
