A wind turbine blade from Vineyard Wind, previously damaged last summer, was struck by lightning, but inspections revealed no new debris or hazards. While the lightning hit the GE Vernova blade, the integrity of the nacelle and turbine structure remains intact. Vineyard Wind is executing a recovery plan for the blade, which has been out of service since last July after a similar incident. This wind farm is critical to Massachusetts' renewable energy efforts, as it's the state’s only offshore project.
The Coast Guard reported that the lightning strike occurred on Friday but has 'no active involvement in response efforts.'
