Aaron Woodrum, 33, was arrested in Kentucky for a weekend break-in at Liberty Ordnance Supply in Norwood. The owner reported seeing a masked suspect in a dark hooded sweatshirt and gloves remove firearms from display cases around 11:40 p.m. Sunday. Officers established a perimeter and received assistance from K-9 units and Massachusetts State Police. Investigators found forced-entry damage and used a police dog to track a scent to a backyard on Neponset Street, where stolen firearms and clothing believed to match the suspect were recovered. Surveillance video and other evidence led investigators to identify Woodrum, who had visited the store days earlier. He was taken into custody Monday morning at a local hotel during a separate call. Court documents list multiple felony charges including breaking and entering and firearm larceny counts.
"The shop's owner was monitoring surveillance cameras during the break-in and reported seeing a suspect, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, mask, and gloves, take firearms from display cases, police said. Officers from both the evening and overnight shifts set up a perimeter and called for backup, with K-9 units and Massachusetts State Police arriving to assist, according to the police statement."
"While searching the area, police reported finding damage to the building, consistent with a forced entry. A police dog tracked a scent to the backyard of a home on Neponset Street, where investigators found stolen firearms and clothing they believed the suspect wore during the robbery, authorities said."
"After analyzing surveillance video and other evidence, authorities identified the suspect as Woodrum, who had visited the store several days before the break-in, according to the police statement. Woodrum was taken into custody Monday morning after officers encountered him at a local hotel while responding to a separate report of a person refusing to leave the premises, police said."
"“The rapid response overnight, combined with strong investigative work, allowed officers to quickly identify and apprehend a suspect while also recovering the stolen firearms,” he said in a statement. “We are grateful to our local and state law enforcement partners for their assistance.”"
