ICA Boston launches $100,000 award for women artists, with Sarah Sze winning inaugural edition
Briefly

The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Boston has introduced the $100,000 Meraki Artist Award dedicated to women visual artists, with installation artist Sarah Sze as the first winner. Funded by Fotene Demoulas, the award aims to elevate women’s contributions in the arts over the next decade. Sze, renowned for her intricate installations that utilize everyday materials, will be honored at ICA's annual women's luncheon on May 5. Her works explore technology, memory, and history, reinforcing the award's mission to celebrate and support women artists.
"In Greek, the word meraki means to pour your soul into something, and I can think of no better way to describe Fotene's longstanding support of artists and the ICA."
"It's a huge honour to be the first recipient of the Meraki Artist Award and I'm inspired by the dedication to love, care and art that the award stands for."
