Heat emergency declared in Boston through Tuesday during summer's first heat wave
Briefly

Boston is experiencing its first significant heat wave of the summer, with temperatures expected to feel like 100 to 110 degrees. Mayor Michelle Wu has declared a heat emergency from Sunday through Tuesday, urging residents to stay hydrated and protect their health. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning across much of the state, indicating the dangerous conditions. Various cooling centers, including parks and libraries, have been established for residents seeking relief. A rise in heat-related emergency calls is anticipated during this period.
"Be sure to stay hydrated, take breaks from working outside and regularly check in on neighbors, friends, and family," Wu said in a statement Saturday.
"Hot weather can sneak up on us, and Boston Emergency Medical Services typically see a 10 to 15 percent increase in 911 calls for people of all ages during heat waves."
