Damien Knighton, a former medical assistant at a Massachusetts General Hospital care center, was sentenced to nine to twelve years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting four male patients. Victims reported unauthorized genital and rectal exams conducted by Knighton, who abused his position to carry out the attacks. Judge Debra Squires-Lee expressed the severity of the crimes due to their nature, emphasizing the emotional trauma inflicted on the victims, who trusted him during their care. Victim impact statements illustrated the profound personal toll of the assaults.
One of the victims read an impact statement in court and two other impact statements were read by Assistant District Attorney Rita Claire Muse.
The defendant used his position and status to facilitate commission of the offenses. The use of his position as a medical assistant to commit these crimes caused the victims additional emotional and psychic pain.
