A year-long federal investigation led to the charging of 18 Brazilian nationals in Massachusetts for firearms offenses involving the trafficking of over 110 guns. These weapons, which included handguns and rifles, were allegedly connected to several gang activities linked to Brazil's Primeiro Comando da Capital and local gangs. U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley emphasized the risk posed by such lawlessness to community safety and the importance of law enforcement collaboration. Most defendants are undocumented immigrants, facing potential deportation after their sentences.
"This kind of lawlessness fuels violent crime and empowers transnational criminal organizations that profit from chaos and fear," U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley said.
The firearms were allegedly tied to 'gang-related activities' by Primeiro Comando da Capital, one of Latin America's largest criminal organizations.
