Willson Contreras is on the Adrian Beltre path of one-year Red Sox
Boston signed Adrian Beltre to a one-year, $9 million deal in 2010 at age 31, producing 49 doubles, 28 home runs, 102 RBIs, and leading third basemen in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS (.919). That season preceded three straight Red Sox playoff absences and led to Beltre’s six-year, $96 million contract with the Texas Rangers. In 2026, Willson Contreras, age 34, ranks third among MLB first basemen with a .894 OPS and is top-six in multiple offensive categories, while also playing solid defense and leading in the clubhouse. The Red Sox are nine games under .500, and Contreras is expected to be an All-Star with a ticket to Philadelphia in mid-July. If Boston sells at the trade deadline, Contreras is among the most intriguing trade targets, with a contract through 2027 and a $20 million club option for 2028.
