Walker Buehler declined a $20 million Dodgers offer and signed a one-year, $21 million deal with the Boston Red Sox. Buehler struggled in Boston, making 22 starts with a 5.45 ERA and a 1.558 WHIP before being released. A subsequent move to the Philadelphia Phillies produced three appearances, three wins, a 0.66 ERA and a 1.171 WHIP. Buehler then signed a minor-league deal with the San Diego Padres and is expected to compete for a starting rotation spot. The Padres lost several pitchers in the offseason and a season-ending injury to Yu Darvish. Proximity to Los Angeles and division familiarity were factors in the move.
