Devin Smeltzer has signed a minor league contract with the Tigers and is assigned to Triple-A Toledo. The team also released veteran outfielder Manuel Margot. Smeltzer, a left-handed pitcher with five years of major league experience, has a 4.32 ERA over 162 1/3 innings. He has struggled with a low strikeout rate, recorded 3.99 ERA from 2019-2022 with the Twins, and experienced significant regression in the 2023 season with a 6.45 ERA in the Marlins organization.
