Royals Place Carlos Estevez On Injured List
"Estévez has made one appearance in the season so far and it was painful, in more ways than one. He was hit by a comebacker off the bat of Michael Harris II."
"The IL placement might be about giving Estévez a reset, as much as anything. In the wake of that unfortunate outing against Atlanta, the Royals were considering moving Estévez out of the closer's role."
"Now that he's on the IL, Estévez can heal up his foot and then spend some time trying to figure out a solution to his diminished stuff."
Carlos Estévez has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a left foot contusion sustained during a game. He was hit by a comebacker and later gave up a walk-off grand slam. The Royals backdated the IL move to allow for recovery and evaluation of his performance issues, including decreased velocity. Estévez can use this time for a minor league rehab assignment. In his absence, Lucas Erceg is expected to take over save opportunities while others handle setup roles.
