After a recent game where he went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, he remains positive during interviews, stating he feels good at the plate despite his results. Critics, including former player Jonathan Papelbon, have suggested he may need to address his physical shape. Devers has a chance to improve his performance in an upcoming game against the Orioles.

Despite the struggles, Devers did appear to be in good spirits when he spoke with reporters after the loss.
The 15 strikeouts through five games are the most in MLB history through that timespan, with Devers surpassing Cubs outfielder Ian Happ's 14 strikeouts in 2018.
During NESN's coverage of Sunday's loss, Papelbon suggested that Devers was 'out of shape' and that 'maybe we've got to trim a little bit of fat.'
