The Boston Red Sox have signed Seby Zavala to a minor-league deal to improve catching depth, as Connor Wong was their only player on the MLB roster.
Zavala, who debuted with the White Sox in 2019, brings valuable fielding skills, finishing in the 87th percentile for Blocks Above Average.
Despite Zavala's strengths in defense, his hitting performance has been lackluster, hitting only .154 in 18 games with Seattle during the 2024 season.
The Red Sox need to continue searching for better catching options, although Zavala's signing offers potential depth behind Connor Wong.
