Boston sent reliever Winckowski down to Triple-A to clear a spot for Bello, who is returning from the injured list to start in Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Winckowski, who had been performing well in the bullpen with a 3.33 ERA, will now transition back to starting games in Triple-A after mostly relieving for the Red Sox.
