Red Sox Acquire Lucas Sims From The Reds
Briefly

The Boston Red Sox are acquiring reliever Lucas Sims from the Cincinnati Reds, according to sources familiar with the deal. The Sox are sending minor league righty Ovis Portes to the Reds to complete the deal.
Sims has not had a clearly defined role with the Reds out of the pen, entering multiple games in the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th innings. His biggest issues are too many walks and struggles to keep the ball in the yard, but he excels at strike outs in tough situations.
Sims has shown better performance at home in Cincinnati, holding opposing batters to a .534 OPS, compared to a 1.006 OPS on the road. He has limited experience pitching at Fenway, with only two appearances, one successful in 2018, and one ineffective in the previous year.
Regarding postseason experience, Sims has only been part of the playoffs once in 2020, which was during the Covid season. He managed two scoreless relief outings with five strikeouts and no hits allowed during that period.
