Pete Alonso reportedly has Red Sox 'high' on his list of possible landing spots in free agency
"The All-Star first baseman has "told friends" that he has the Red Sox "high" on his list of possible destinations in free agency this offseason, The Boston Globe's Pete Abraham reported."
"The 2025 season was actually one of Alonso's best, hitting .272 with a .871 OPS, an NL-leading 41 doubles, 38 home runs, and 126 RBIs."
"A member of an American League front office recently told the New York Post's Joel Sherman that Alonso would be "lucky to get a four[-year deal, and that would likely come with a lower AAV [average annual value] and a whopper of deferred dollars.""
Pete Alonso, who will turn 31 on Sunday, has the Boston Red Sox high on his list of potential free-agent destinations. Alonso has hit at least 30 homers in every full major-league season outside of 2020 and posted a strong 2025 campaign, hitting .272 with a .871 OPS, an NL-leading 41 doubles, 38 homers and 126 RBIs. Alonso has local ties through his wife, who grew up in Quincy, and the two met in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Multiple outlets projected a four- or five-year deal near $30 million per year, but an American League executive suggested Alonso might be lucky to get a four-year deal with a lower average annual value and substantial deferred dollars. Scott Boras represents Alonso, and Alonso sought a long-term deal last offseason as well.
