The Orioles have signed Japanese pitching star Tomoyuki Sugano to a one-year contract worth $13 million, marking his debut in Major League Baseball as he transitions to the league.
Tomoyuki Sugano, who is noted for his exceptional track record with a 2.43 ERA over more than 1800 innings in Japan, will turn 35 next season.
Sugano was pursued by Major League teams during the 2020-21 offseason after an impressive 1.97 ERA, but ultimately chose to remain with the Yomiuri Giants at that time.
The signing of Sugano, represented by VC Sports Group, reflects the Orioles’ strategy to strengthen their pitching staff by integrating seasoned international talent.
