Eddy Alvarez, after being designated for assignment by the Mets and going unclaimed on waivers, is heading to Triple-A Syracuse but can opt for free agency.
Acquired from the Red Sox to bolster the Mets' injured infield, Alvarez went hitless in 11 at-bats and pitched in one game, but now faces free agency.
In his limited major league appearances, Alvarez has struggled offensively with a .170 batting average, yet has been successful in Triple-A with a .277 average.
Versatile with experience in various positions, Alvarez has demonstrated defensive skills but is looking for a chance to revitalize his career outside of the Mets.
